Patriots lose to Warren Township in Home Opener

Stevenson girls’ varsity basketball lost a nail-biter against the Warren Township Blue Devils on Friday night, falling 33-28. Facing two Division one commits, in Kaylen Dickson (Wake Forest) and Jordyn Hughes (Eastern Illinois), the Patriots limited Hughes to eight points but had trouble containing Dickson, as she totaled 17 points in the game. Hughes and Dickson combined to account for almost all of Warren’s baskets on the night and have each amounted to over 1,000 points in their high school careers.

The Warren defense shut down Stevenson’s offense, only allowing eight points in the first half. Isabella Paldrmic ’18 was the focal point of the Patriot offense in the second half, making four three-pointers for her 12 points in the game. The Patriots looked to get her the ball again late in the game when they were down, but had two turnovers before they could do so.

Stevenson also changed their game plan after halftime, as they attempted more three-pointers in the second half. The plan worked, as Stevenson was able to space the floor and create more open shots beyond the arc. The Patriots scored twenty points in the second half compared to eight in the first.

Despite not attempting any shots on the night, Julia Osuch ’18 was scrappy on the boards, as the 5’7” guard came down with seven rebounds. She was able to slip in between other players to get the ball and be physical when she wanted to, also picking up a handful of steals on the night.

Now 3-3, Stevenson will have the tough task of matching up against the 5-3 Lake Forest Scouts on Wednesday the next time they take the court. The game will take place at 7:00 pm at Lake Forest.
