WIT Editor-In-Chief Cheryl Chen ’20 attended the annual University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Creative Writing Festival. Along with other creative writing classes, the WIT attended the all-day conference in which students were able to submit their work competitively. Chen had written a nonfiction piece about her childhood in Nebraska and her experiences being Asian in a predominantly white state. This essay entitled Harvest Plums won a first place regional award. Alongside her receiving this accolade, Chen was able to spend the day attending presentations learning different writing tactics to apply in her future endeavors.
